Post Compaq F712NR F700 has the problem
I have my sister in law's F712NR that would not do anything but blink the LEDs once and then the power LED would stay on. No display, no beeps, nothing. After searching the internet, i stumbled over this nvidia problem, and this seems to be the same issue. I called HP twice and while they were "nice", no luck, the F700s are not covered, even though the F500 and other HP laptops are covered. So should i press for a case manager or send the letter to Hurd or do both?

Do it. The F500 (my laptop) and the F700 (and the G6000) all use the same motherboard.

BTW, the Video Card is the 6150 - it just appears in Device Mgr as 6100.
(Ex. My ATi Radeon 4850 appears as 4800 in Device Mgr.)
(Eh, maybe I'm wrong...?, nontheless, :T, the 6000 series is defective...)

Ok if we go on Part surfer...
Here is part surfer for the F712NR

Here is part surfer for the F557US (my laptop...)

WHAT'S THIS???
They use the same motherboard~~~???!!!!

Sue, and then tell them why would they cover and one and not the others? Why? Because they were covering it up. Clearly both laptops use the same motherboard, and 99% of their parts are the same.

If you check your BIOS update, it was updated on 12/14?/2007 just like the F557US was:
(It is even the same BIOS -_-)
712NR > http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ct=3561974

557US > http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/soft ... ct=3370444

This is the BIOS that was clearly done to speed up the fan (it says it...) and it was released in 2007, nVIDIA announced the defect in 2008, and when HP released the 'enhancement' in 2008, they were pushing a BIOS from 2007 down people's throats.

So now that I have given you a wellspring of evidence from my laptop (those I can no longer hold HP responsible for it legally), go forth, and settle? or fight it in court.

I settled out, and I just have to send them their crap machine - I hope they don't use it as a replacement for some poor sap, but eh, business is business to these people :\

It is about damn time someone else with the F5xx or the F7xx series laptops came online :D!

Questions?

I can no longer blame HP for my laptop issues, however I will help to gather information for people with these laptops:
F500, F700, G6000, TX1000, TX2000
Since there isn't as much data available for those laptops as there is with the dv(xxxx) series.
