Hi,

I am a Deputy Sheriff in California, and yes my Tx1320 is an over heating piece of crap. As to the recording of conversations with HP, when you call MOST of the numbers to HP's customer service you will get the famous recording that states, "Your conversation may be recorded for training purposes." This takes away all rights to privacy as it pertains to the conversation. In simple terms, you and they know the conversations is being recorded because of the recording notification, so there should be no legal reason why you could not record the conversation yourself without notifying the HP representative. :D

Thanks for the tip.

I'm well on my way to getting my free repair 19 days after my warranty ran out. My dv2845se with AMD Turion and 7150m nVidia card is currently at an HP certified Best Buy repair center. My concern is that they will tell me, like many others, that it's a problem with the motherboard and the GPU will be replaced with another faulty part.

Does anyone know if these faulty parts have been exhausted or if they're still using them for repairs? I'd hate to receive a repaired computer with another one of these POS GPUs, only to have to send it back months later.

BTW, I was getting GPU temps of 99 to 100 degrees C. How hot have some people seen?

There is a poll here on the forums that has a list of recorded temperatures. I am in a bit of a hurry at the moment so I can't pop the link in here. Also keep in mind that the GPU is an integral part of the motherboard it is not what could be called a component unto itself. For example you can't just replace the faulty NVIDIA GPU chip with another one that is not faulty. The chip and the motherboard come as a package deal and from all indications the ones that are being used to do the repairs have the same issues.

I have seen no evidence that they have stopped putting bad parts in when they "fix" it.

They are still replacing bad parts with new bad parts.

Howdy ho, just registered after finding this site and fighting tooth and nail to get things fixed for my girlfriend. So far I'm having no luck. My Case Manager is being pretty useless and telling me he will get fired for fixing my notebook because it isn't covered. When I mentioned that I have service numbers he could use to prove that others are getting fixed for free, I was told he would be fired for looking them up. I tried calling executive support, but because I already had a case manager, I have to talk to him instead.

I've put in a complaint with the BBB. I've also emailed every single email I've found on this site and have no idea where to really proceed from here. I guess I can trying arguing with him some more, but anything beyond that since even executive support refuses to talk to me?

Oh, also you can't believe anything you read on the internet because it is all lies from people who hate HP and want the company to die.

DIE HP DIE

...anyway, yeah, that's pretty lame. Tell him that he won't be fired. Tell him if he gets fired, you'll help him get another job.

Post Re: Guide: How to Get YOUR Free Repair
Thank you for posting this guide!!

Briefly, here is my story: I was having absolutely no luck with HP Email support, after extensive mucking round (and head banging on my part) they told me to send the laptop to Australia (I'm in New Zealand) for a repair. They didn't tell me who would pay, so I emailed them to point out that A) there is a repair shop in NZ, and B) ask who would pay - they said I'd have to cover the cost myself.

In my frustration I sent an email for Mark Hurd's office through the HP website, stating in rather irritated terms why I was upset. They quickly responded - they were sorry about my experience etc. and would pass on the details to the appropriate people. End of story.

When I re-read my letter, I was actually a bit embarrassed - I'd been quite blunt and whiny which I didn't intend. So, I replied and genuinely apologised for my attitude, again stating that I hoped someone would take notice and DO something. Within minutes I had a response from the NZ Customer Experience Team, saying that they'd like to assign me a case manager, and assist me - could they have serial numbers etc.

I then got a phone call from the case manager, saying that if I could send the laptop to their NZ repair shop, he'd get a free assessment for me asap, and then phone me to discuss the options - this seems reasonable to me. This is where I'm at so far...we'll see what the assessment turns up.

I know that some of you have got no response or assistance unless you were rude, but in my case, they did respond quickly when I was reasonable and apologised, which I appreciate. I'll keep y'all posted on what happens from here.....

Again, thanks to Evey and the team for all the work they put in here - much appreciated!

The assessment will most likely be that the machine is damaged and that you will probably have to pay for the repair. Do not take that from them. Insist on a free repair, because you have plenty of evidence that suggests that the unit died from a manufacturing defect caused by faulty parts.

Try to remain professional, but don't pay anything to have it fixed.

Just a quick update on my case - my case manager got me to send the laptop to the manager of the repair shop, and they gave it attention pretty quickly. I received a call from the case manager saying that they had found the Motherboard to be fried, the hard drive to be likely fried and "quite a few other bits as well". He wasn't that keen to elaborate on what the problem might have been (no need to, we already know, but I was interested anyway) but he said that despite being out of warranty they would cover the repair costs, and insert a new motherboard, hard drive etc.

So far, HP New Zealand have been quite prompt and reasonable, the tough part was actually getting someone to take notice of my case. I was definitely despairing of any hope until I found this guide!!

I'm expecting a call this week to elaborate on what they've done and discuss the case etc. I'll post when that happens, and what the outcome is.

Best of luck everyone - keep persevering!! :)
